Week One - What Do You Mean I Took the Decision to Have No Income for the Next 12 Weeks?!
If there’s anything I gained from my career, it’s cost savings, cost cutting, cost avoidance, and cost optimization, so… I got this!💰💪
I live by the beach and have a family zoo pass. These will be my main freebie outings for the summer, along with everything Toronto has to offer, so I think we’ll be just fine.
Day One
No emails, Teams chats, meetings, or calls. What will I do with my time? A lot, it turns out. I had a long list of personal to-dos, errands, and tasks that had been sitting on the kitchen counter for months. I'm off to return clothes I bought online back in March!
Day Two
I decided to head to the passport office at 10:30 AM on a Tuesday morning to renew our passports thinking it would be a quick in/out task. As luck would have it, it seemed half the city had the same idea 🙄. About an hour of standing still in line, I left and walked over to Canada Post to mail it in instead. Task completed!
Day Three
With the temperature soaring to 40 degrees Celsius, I decided to keep my daughter home from school. We started our day by preparing smoothies and an omelette for breakfast, followed by a trip to Splash Island at the Toronto Zoo! What a wonderful day filled with freedom and happiness.
Day Four:
I've started to fully integrate my personal life into my calendar. I've always combined my personal and professional schedules, but I quickly realized that I haven't managed my personal time very well after I walked into an appointment thinking it was today, only to discover it's actually scheduled for next Tuesday...
Day Five:
Dropping off my daughter at school this morning felt incredibly less stressful than I ever remember it to be. I'm slowly getting the hang of this time off.
Newly discovered song on repeat: Hollow Coves - Blessings
Books i've read this week (or finally finished): The 5AM Club - Own Your Morning. Elevate Your Life. Authored by the legendary, Robin Sharma
Career Reflections:
None. I need to adjust to the idea that I have nothing else to do but enjoy the next 12 weeks of summer. Many thoughts come to mind, but they all diverge from the path my career has led me on so far. Only time will tell where this period takes me.
